Monthly Report No.1 (Apr. 20, 2007)

*GREETINGS from GENERAL SECRETARIAT*

From this month on, AC21 General Secretariat will send each AC21 member institution a monthly report
on what’s happening with our consortium. We hope you will have a good grasp on activities AC21
General Secretariat is working on to move our AC21 forward for further development.

*VISITS TO AC21 MEMBER INSTITUTIONS*

In February, AC21 Project Coordinator Associate Professor Iwaki and Assistant Coordinator Ms. Hisada
visited the University of Sydney and met former AC21 President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Brown
and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hearn. They discussed various topics regarding AC21, such
as topics for the next International Forum, possible new member candidates for AC21 and the planned
AC21 activities this year. They also discussed the symposium/workshop which will be held along with
the Fifth Steering Committee Meeting (STC) in October at Nagoya University. The session will be on
the quality and evaluation in higher education (tentative), and invitation for the keynote lecture
and participants for the panel discussion are being planned now. The meeting was very productive and
promising!

Last month, AC21 Steering Committee Chair Professor Yamamoto, AC21 Director Professor Nomizu and
AC21 Project Coordinator Associate Professor Iwaki visited North Carolina State University. They met
with Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Professor Larry Nielsen, Vice Provost for International
Affairs Professor Bailian Li and Professor Betsy Brown and discussed future collaboration with AC21
members and active involvement in AC21 activities. North Carolina State University has several
campuses across the area in Raleigh, and they visited as much as they can during the stay. Among
excellent facilities, Centennial Campus, is especially worthwhile to visit- so members, if you ever
have the chance to visit North Carolina, we strongly encourage you for a stopover. As AC21 member,
they will welcome you with open arms!

*UPCOMING AC21 EVENT*

As announced on March 29, Second Student World Forum will be held in Paris, at Ecole Nationale des
Ponts et Chaussees (ENPC) from July 21 to July 28. Registration form and details will be sent out to
