Monthly Report No.12 (Jan. 4, 2009)

New Year’s Greetings from AC21 General Secretariat! We hope this finds all of you well.

*The Third Student World Forum at Chemnitz University of Technology*

When we were at the International Forum at NC State hearing about the plans for the Third Student World Forum in June 2009, we thought this day was still way ahead of us, but how time flies! Five months more and students will gather in Germany. As Secretariat has mentioned several times in the email as well as on the AC21 website, the traveling fee, local transportation fee and food will be taken care of by DAAD and other cooperative organizations, plus each student will receive a stipend. We have begun receiving application forums from many members, but those who haven’t, the deadline is at the end of this month, so please hurry. We sincerely hope all of you have already selected three students to send to the Forum. After all, who could miss such a tempting opportunity? It would be a shame that your students should miss out on this wonderful experience.

*A Visit to The University of Adelaide*

General Secretariat paid a visit to the AC21’s newest member, the University of Adelaide in November 2008. Pro-Vice Chancellor John Taplin and President and Vice-Chancellor James McWha welcomed us and we discussed many exciting plans for future AC21.

*A Visit from Chemnitz University of Technology*

Chancellor Alles and Ms. Katrin Schulz have visited us in December 2008 to discuss the details of the Student World Forum. You can imagine how happy and surprised we were to hear the plans they have offered!

*Call for Applicants: AC21 Special Project Fund*

We will begin accepting the application for the AC21 Special Project Fund starting next month. AC21 Special Project Fund (ACSPF) was brought up at the Steering Committee in NCSU and was agreed unanimously at the General Assembly. This project aims to promote the development of research and educational exchange between AC21 members. The project should involve at least three AC21 universities from at least two different countries. For more information and application form, please visit our website.

*Presentation at AIEA Conference*

Dr. Betsy Brown and AC21 Project Coordinator Dr. Nami Iwaki will be giving a presentation titled “International Consortia: Challenges and Opportunities” at the AIEA Conference (Association of International Education Administrators) in Atlanta, Georgia which will be held from February 22 to 26. Their session will be on Monday 23 from 4:45-5:30. If you are planning to attend this conference, please attend their session!

*AC21 Booth at APAIE Conference*

AC21 General Secretariat will be participating in the APAIE conference continuing from last year. It will be held at Renmin University in China, from April 15-17. Please come and visit us!

Again, the deadline for the application form for the Student World Forum is at the end of this month. You can download the information as well as all the forms from our website, or you can email us.
