Dear AC21 Members,

Greetings from the AC21 General Secretariat. I hope this finds all of you well.

My name is Hedvig Rozsnyoi, a newly appointed project coordinator for AC21 General Secretariat at Nagoya University since June 1. I was delighted to meet some of you at the 3rd Student World Forum in Chemnitz and I am very much looking forward to seeing you in person and welcome you at the upcoming seventh Steering Committee meeting in October in Nagoya. It is my great pleasure to work with all of you and facilitate the communication within and

*AC21 Third Student World Forum

The 3rd AC21 Student World Forum was held at Chemnitz University of Technology from June 22 to 27. A total of 51 selected students from 17 member institutions attended the Forum, Chemnitz University of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Chulalongkorn University, Peking University, Northeastern University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, Jilin University, Kasetsart University, Nanjing University, National University of Laos, Nagoya University, North Carolina State University, University of Freiburg, the University of Warwick, University of Sydney, and University of Adelaide.

The theme of the forum “Meeting the global challenges: Production in the 21st century” attracted many bright students. Prominent figures of the business sector and leading scholars ensured the high level of lectures and other intellectual forums. It provided the platform for critical insights and provoked heated debates on key issues of various topics such as resources and energy efficient technologies as well as biomechanical research in human locomotion. Besides the workshop, students also enjoyed visiting the historical sites of Chemnitz and Dresden, and the highlight of other social events, the wonderful university ball. What made a long-lasting impression on the students was the very fact to have the chance to meet in person and to experience the challenge of intellectual, cross-cultural communication. Details of the event and essays from students will be published in the forthcoming Newsletter vol.8. For now, please visit the following URLs for documents prepared by Chemnitz University of Technology.

*AC21 Booth at APAIE

AC21 General Secretariat participated in the Third APAIE Conference held on April 15-18 at Renmin University in China. AC21 and Nagoya University had a joint booth which attracted many attendees and gave the opportunity for exchanging interesting ideas and comments. We were very happy to meet members from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Peking University and University of Adelaide who also visited the joined booth of AC21. The booth indeed gave wide possible publicity to AC21.

*NAFSA 2009, AC21 Working Breakfast

Chemnitz University of Technology held an AC21 working breakfast meeting at the NAFSA Conference on May 26 in Los Angeles. The lively discussion covered key issues on international marketing strategies (presented by Chemnitz University of Technology), international exchange-latest developments (presented by DAAD) and international networking and exchange programs (presented by the University of Adelaide) where many interesting ideas and comments were exchanged. Through this experience, we felt that holding such sessions and promoting AC21 outside are extremely important. We will continue to participate and hold sessions in similar events.

The seventh STC meeting will be held in October 29 and 30 at Nagoya University. Although STC meeting is a closed session only for STC members, the following symposium on 30 will be open to all members. The symposium title is “Double Degree Programs: Prospects and Strategic Perspectives”, followed by a roundtable discussion (tentative): “Prospects and Issues for Double Degree Programs between AC21 Members”. From the Open University of Japan, Professor Akira Ninomiya will give an initial keynote address on the above topic. Further details will be sent to you later concerning the event.

We would like as many AC21 members as possible to join this symposium.

Please contact AC21 General Secretariat for further information.

We look forward to seeing you in Nagoya.
