Monthly Report No.27 (Oct. 31, 2011)
Dear AC21 Members and Partners,
This month has seen devastating floods in Thailand affecting two of our partners, Chulalongkorn and Kasetsart Universities. We hope that they are managing to stay dry and send out our support once again as a show of solidarity.
The following are updates and some recent news for the AC21:
Gadjah Mada University Visit
The General Secretariat visited for the first time the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. We attended the ICAYL (International Conference of ASEAN Young Leaders) as observers and were able to witness firsthand the flawless organization of UGM, as well as learning more about the history, dynamics and future trends for the ASEAN community. We met with Dr. Rachmat SRIWIJAYA, the Head of the Office of International Affairs, along with various other staff members and visited the internationally active UGM Faculty of Economics and Business. See the AC21 Newsletter in spring 2012 for the full report.
The Office of International Affairs, UGM
We also had a special opportunity to enjoy a mini-reunion with the two UGM students who participated in the 4th Student World Forum held earlier this year at Chulalongkorn University, Mr. Ahmad Nasikun and Ms. Erna Febriyanti. The two students were eager to show us around their hometown and we had an opportunity to share a meal and learn more about student life and goals for the young Indonesian leaders of tomorrow.
6th AC21 International Forum Update (June 12-15, 2012)
Members will soon be receiving official news from the University of Adelaide concerning the fixed dates, suggested accommodation and registration fee for the upcoming forum. As this year marks the 10th Anniversary for the AC21, we are aiming for 100% full member participation at the GA meeting for 2012. Invitations for both the STC and GA meetings will go out at the end of this year, however we urge you to mark your calendars and make the necessary budget preparations as soon as possible for this important event.
Special Project Fund (SPF) 2012
Applications for the SPF 2012 were sent out on October 6th, 2011. Please inform the General Secretariat if you have not yet received your new SPF Guidelines and Application for 2012. I will attach the new SPF Guidelines and Application Form on to this email for reference.
QS-APPLE 2012 Manila
I will be participating in the QS-APPLE this year for the first time. We will assess the participation value for the consortium and decide whether or not to pursue future attendance at this annual Asian centered international education event. Please let me know if your institution will send a representative and I will be sure to pay them a visit!
AC21 Newsletter Volume 12
Volume 12 of the AC21 Newsletter is ready and should be arriving at your institutions any day. We hope that you will take this opportunity to distribute this newsletter to your departments to increase circulation of AC21 programs and events. The Newsletter may also be viewed online:
AC21 Communicator Network List
I am always interested in keeping our AC21 contact list up to date and as accurate as possible. Please remember to send the General Secretariat a note to indicate any recent staff or faculty changes.
