Monthly Report No.48(March 31, 2014)

Dear AC21 Members,

 

Thank you very much for your continued support of AC21 and its activities.

The following are updates and some recent news from AC21.

 

 1.       AC21 General Secretariat participated in Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference & Exhibition 2014

The AC21 General Secretariat exhibited a joint booth with Nagoya University at the APAIE Conference & Exhibition 2014. The event was held from March 17 - 20, 2014 at the aT Center, Seoul, Korea (http://www.apaie.org/conference/2014/). The Secretariat had meetings with delegates of the following member universities attending APAIE: Chulalongkorn University, Jilin University, Kasetsart University, and North Carolina State University.


 2.       University of Adelaide and University of Freiburg visited Nagoya University

On March 18-20, 2014, Nagoya University welcomed guests from the University of Adelaide and the University of Freiburg and held “International Joint Symposia, University of Adelaide, University of Freiburg, Nagoya University (Graduate School of Medicine & School of Medicine).” The guests included leaders of the two visiting universities, including Professor Kent Anderson (Pro Vice-Chancellor) of the University of Adelaide, and Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer (Rector) and Prof. Dr. Gunther Neuhaus (Vice-Rector for Research) of the University of Freiburg. The Symposia were very successful and we had a fruitful discussion about our future collaboration!

 3.       The 7th AC21 International Forum 2014 (Main Theme: Science for Society: Higher Education as Builder of Hope)

The 7th AC21 International Forum (IF) 2014 will be held from April 13 - 16, 2014 in Stellenbosch, Republic of South Africa, and will be hosted by Stellenbosch University. The following are the sub-themes of the IF:

  •  Creating Networks for Training the Next Generation of Academics
  • Higher Education and Community Development: Curriculum for Society
  • Building Bridges between Communities through Academic Mobility
  • Competitive Industry: Higher Education, Research and Innovation
  • Academic Track

For details of the IF 2014, please visit the conference website prepared by Stellenbosch University at www.sun.ac.za/ac21. We look forward to meeting delegates of member universities in Stellenbosch next month!

 

 4.       The 12th Steering Committee (STC) Meeting and the 7th General Assembly

During the IF 2014, the 12th STC Meeting and the 7th General Assembly will also be hosted by Stellenbosch University on April 13 and 15, respectively. We have many important agenda to discuss at the meetings and are expecting many participants.


 5.       Next STC Member Election

As approved at the 5th AC21 General Assembly held in June 2012, the next STC member election will take place at the 7th General Assembly. Self-nominations for the three open STC member positions next term closed on February 14, 2014. The AC21 General Secretariat has already e-mailed you the list of all member universities who nominated themselves for the STC positions on February 21, 2014.

 

 6.       Host of AC21 International Forum (IF) in 2018

Based on the discussion at the 6th AC21 General Assembly held on October 17, 2013 at Tongji University, Shanghai, China, we plan to select our site for the “AC21 International Forum (IF) 2018” at the next AC21 General Assembly.


 7.       AC21 Special Project Fund 2014

The results of the evaluations of applications have already been sent to the respective applicants and AC21 communicators of all member universities. The two projects to be granted the fund this year are listed below. Congratulations!!

Volume 17 of the AC21 Newsletter are now available both online and in print. Volume 17 of the AC21 Newsletter should have already arrived at your universities. We would appreciate it if you could distribute this Newsletter to the appropriate recipients to keep them informed of AC21 news and its activities.
