*AC21 International Symposium*
AC21 will hold a special symposium after the Fifth AC21 Steering Committee on October 26 at Nagoya University. The title of the symposium is “Quality and Evaluation in Higher Education”, and we will have distinguished speakers talking about various interesting topics concerning Higher Education today. The symposium starts with Keynote lecture by Dr. Hans de Wit from the University of Amsterdam. He will give a lecture on “Universities in Global Market and Network: Roles of International Consortia in Quality Improvement”, and this will be followed by the Roundtable Discussion titled “Responding to the Challenges: International University Rankings, Benchmarking, and Internal Reforms”. Speakers for this section will be from AC21 institutions; From the University of Sydney, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Professor John Hearn, from North Carolina State University, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Professor Larry Nielsen, and from the University of Warwick, Academic Registrar and the Director of International Affairs, Dr. David Law.

*AC21 Second Student World Forum*
AC21 Second Student World Forum was held at ENPC from July 21 to 28. Total of 16 students from 11 institutions- Chemnitz University of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Kasetsart University, Nanjing University, Nagoya University, North Carolina State University, Tongji University, University of Freiberg, and the University of Warwick and participated in the event. This year’s SWF topic was “Sustainable Cities”, and students participated actively on the discussion about energy, building & housing, and water & waste solutions. Besides the workshop, students also seemed to have enjoyed visiting the city of Paris, including the wonderful farewell dinner cruise on the Seine. *A Visit from AC21 Institution *
Professor Prof. B. Wielage from Chemnitz University of Technology visited AC21 General Secretariat on July 18, and had a discussion on AC21 future activities with STC Chair Professor Yamamoto and Director Nomizu. They discussed the Forum next year and future collaboration within the AC21 network.
