Monthly Report No.66 (January 28, 2016)

Dear AC21 members,

Greetings from the AC21 General Secretariat!

With the start of the year 2016, our busiest season has also started. Here are the latest updates and information to share.

1) Application for the Special Project Fund (SPF) 2016 will CLOSE SOON on Jan 31, 2016

Academics of an AC21 member institution are eligible to apply for this grant program provided by the AC21.

Those who wish to apply for the SPF should consult with their university's AC21 Communicator(s) and obtain the SPF guidelines and application form for the 2016 round. They are also available for download at:

http://www.ac21.org/files/3114/4367/2688/2016SPFGuidelines.pdf

We look forward to receiving many inspiring applications that will enhance the AC21 research collaboration.

2)  AC21 International Forum 2016 to be held in Chemnitz, Germany -- Call for Papers has been released!Logo_Variante.png

A Call for Prpoosals for presentations at the International Forum (IF) 2016 was announced and sent out to each AC21 member university via email dated December 13, 2015, from the Technische Universität Chemnitz.

It can also be found at the following websites:

[TU Chemnitz's website]    http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/ac21

[AC21 website]    http://www.ac21.org/english/activities/int_forum/2016

Please note that the AC21 International Forums are open to non-AC21 members. AC21 and TU Chemnitz encourage as many proposals as possible from within and outside the AC21 network!

The AC21 International Forum 2016 will be hosted by the Technische Universität Chemnitz from April 30 to May 3, 2016, under the overarching theme "Networks of Innovation for the Transformation of Society through Science", along with the following four sub-themes:

1) Finding the "best practices" for creating networks with scientific, economic, political or societal partners in a global context; 2) Building "chains of innovation" for development in science, economy, and society;

3) Stimulating innovation and a "transfer culture" within trans-disciplinary, cross-sector networks; and

4) Identifying key innovation drivers and creating framework conditions and infrastructures.

One of the special attributes of the IF 2016 is that the forum will be held in the week commemorating the jubilee, as 2016 marks the 180th anniversary of TU Chemnitz which was founded in 1836.

Additionally, the "AC21 Presidency Rotation" mini-ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 3 at the Closing Reception of the Forum. The AC21 Presidency is an honorary designation and served in rotation by a representative of the host institution of the AC21 International Forum. At the mini-ceremony, the ornament that symbolizes the Presidency will be handed from the Technische Universität Chemnitz over to Jilin University, the host of the next IF to be held in 2017.

3) AC21 Steering Committee (STC) Meeting and General Assembly (GA)

This year's STC and GA will be held at Chemnitz on April 30 and May3, respectively. Anticipated agenda items for the events include new STC members and hosts for the 2019 and 2020 events. Furthermore, we at the General Secretariat are now considering, in collaboration with the TU Chemnitz based on its proposal, a new attempt to enhance the AC21 collaboration: setting up a workshop as a place for sharing and learning from each other, in which AC21 delegates participate.

4) General Secretariat to attend APAIE 2016 at Melbourne: Booth Number 29

We will run a booth from March 1-3 and our booth number is 29. Please share this information with your colleagues who will attend this year's APAIE.

We will also participate as a presenter in the Parallel Session 2F which is scheduled for March 1. As announced in the previous issues of the Monthly Report, AC21 will deliver a group presentation entitled "AC21: The Consortia as a Tool for Collaboration in Education, Research and Beyond", at Parallel Session 2F from 16:00-17:30, (Tuesday) March 1, 2016.

The group will be comprised of presenter/s from the following member universities:
