Monthly Report No.78 (February 13, 2017)
Dear AC21 members,
Greetings from the AC21 General Secretariat!
Here are some updates and news to share with you.
1) Special Project Fund (SPF) 2017: Review of proposals begins
The 2017 AC21 SPF Application closed on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Thanks to our fellow members' keen interest in strengthening research collaboration among AC21 institutions, we have received a total of 15 applications this year, which is the largest number ever since the AC21 SPF started.
The review process by the STC members has already begun and the successful proposals will be announced in March.
2) AC21 International Graduate School (IGS) 2017 to be held at Gadjah Mada University
The IGS 2017 will be hosted by Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, from July 11 to 15, 2017, with the theme "Community and Indigenous-based Technology for Sustainable Development towards Resilience Society".
Some of you will shortly receive a letter from Gadjah Mada requesting you to select and send a researcher who will deliver a lecture at the IGS 2017.
Through a variety of educational programs from classroom lectures to hands-on activities, such as internships and community services, the IGS 2017 will offer a good opportunity for our graduate students to broaden and deepen their academic perspectives, as well as build friendships and network with peer students from universities in different countries.
3) Steering Committee (STC) Meeting 2017: Scheduled date and attendees
The tentative schedule prepared by Gadjah Mada University says that the STC Meeting 2017 at Gadjah Mada University is expected on July 10, 2017, one day before the start of the IGS 2017.
We would also like to remind you that the AC21 STC Meeting 2017 at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia will be held only for STC members, in order to streamline the relevant arrangements and costs, and facilitate effective discussion at the Meeting.
Furthermore, from 2017 onwards, the STC Meeting will be held not only as a closed meeting exclusively for STC members, but also on a "paperless" basis, from the perspectives of time- and cost-efficiencies, as well as of eco-friendliness.
4) AC21 Membership Updates
Peking University withdrew from AC21 on February 1, 2017, which had been one of the oldest members within the AC21 network. We wish to express our utmost gratitude to Peking University's participation and cooperation in the Consortium.
